History
Late in 1994, Chris Alvarez's serious medical situation was brought to the attention of a leading local philanthropist who is from our region—and was and still is contributing substantially to AIDS research. Chris became an "ideal" patient of a medical program in Boston—so much so that he inspired many who became familiar with his often Lazarus-like recoveries which made front page news around the world.

As a result, a small diverse group of local community leaders from our region became good friends, and as time went on, this group became the nucleus of the Founding Board of Directors for the first Boys & Girls Club in our region. During Chris's lifetime, the group wished to establish an Endowment Fund in his name for the purpose of funding Health-Related Programs for the Boys & Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts in recognition of Chris playing a significant role in bringing the group together, for his inspirational fortitude and positive spirit, and for his often strongly expressed desire to help children from all walks of life.
